IT was a day for the debutantes during the annual Gympie Brahman Female Sale held at Gympie Saleyards last Saturday, selling both the $20,000 top grey and $12,000 red heifers.
Overall, vendors grossed $437,000 for the 105 heifers that comprised 82 grey heifers for a $4369 average and the 23 reds averaged $3489. With over 95 bid cards registered there was strong competition on quality young females throughout the entire sale.
Top price of $20,000 was reached for the unjoined heifer Tarramba Platinum Data 3512 (IVF) (P), offered by sale debutants Adam and Tracy Gunthorpe, Gunthorpe Cattle Company, Tarramba, Banana and selling to Debbie and Ian Frampton, Little Creek Brahmans, Biggenden.
The 14-month-old polled heifer sired by Three D Platinum (P) and out of Starbra Lady Possum will be used in an artificial insemination program with an imported American bull at the Frampton’s Biggenden property.
A strong second top price was achieved by the 18-month-old grey heifer, Brahrock MS Elmo Marri 5873 (IVF) on account of Royce and Beryl Sommerfeld, Brahrock Brahmans, Maryborough selling for $19,000 to Ray and Leah Vella, Vella Brahmans, Bald Hills, Marlborough.
Brahrock MS Elmo Marri will join their breeding and fattening operations at Marlborough.
Mr Vella said Marri was a complete all round heifer with proven bloodlines on her dam’s side. She will be used as a donor cow in their AI program to breed their own bulls for their stud and commercial herds.
The Sommerfeld family also sold the third top priced heifer at $16,000. Brahrock MS Huds Empress 5967 (IVF) a 14-month-old unjoined daughter of JDH Sir Hudson Manso 596/7 and out of Brahrock Miss Elmo Bos Empress (AI) sold to Matt and Josh Bishop, Garglen M and J, Moura.
Royce and Beryl Sommerfeld, Brahrock Brahmans, Maryborough sold 13 heifers for an impressive $7731 average. The entire Sommerfeld family’s draft of 22 heifers made a strong $6318 average.
Reaching in the pocket next for $12,000 top red money was Scott, Racheal and Michael Rule of Cleethorpes Red Brahmans, Marlborough who purchased Tarramba Divine 3404/7 (P) again from the Tarramba stable.
The 17-month-old unjoined, polled heifer Tarramba 3403/7 sired by Lanes Creek Dividend 1560 and out of Tarramba Miss Delacruz, caught the eye of Rule family with the heifer’s dark red polled genetics, soft loose skin and temperament.
Australian Brahman Breeders Association manager Anastasia Fanning said it was a strong sale for the proven and in-demand bloodlines of JDH Mr Elmo Manso and Three D Platinum being the standout sires of the day.
“It was a tremendous opportunity to buy heifers with outstanding bloodlines and the quality heifers sold well,” Mrs Fanning said.
Two active bulk buyers were Bill and Kay Geddes, Doonside, Jardine securing six females for a $5833 average.
Rob and Kerry Gowland, Sandalwood Cattle Co, Theebine had the biggest order of the day after buying 13 females for a $2846 average.
Agents for the sale were Sullivan Livestock and Rural Services, Landmark and Elders.
