It was an action packed Easter weekend at Emerald and Roma.
Roma Easter in the Country Festival held an Xtreme Bull Ride on Good Friday and an eight event rodeo on Easter Sunday with their annual Rodeo. Emerald held their annual Easter rodeo in conjunction with the Emerald Sunflower Festival.
Both rodeos attracted huge competitor entries across all events.
The 2015 and 2016 Australian Bareback Bronc Riding Champion David Worsfold from Wandoan won at both events collecting almost $2000 in prize money for the long weekend in his pet event. This will give his position in the standings a good boost in order to qualify at the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals in October this year.
Springsure rider Cody Angland claimed third at both events in the Open Saddle Bronc Ride. Cody is another rider looking likely to compete at Warwick later this year.
The ones to watch this season are quiet achievers; brothers Wade, Mitchell and Brock Eastwell from Warwick in Queensland. Mitchell and Brock competed with great success in the rope and tie at the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals last year and are looking set to qualify again with hopes of winning the Australian Title. Although most of their success has been in the rope and tie they also compete in the steer wrestling and team roping. Wade won the rope and tie at Roma and placed 4th at Emerald. Brock was sixth in the steer wrestling at Roma.
The Iker family had success over the long weekend. Current Australian Breakaway Roping Champion Jorja Iker was true to form and won her event at Roma and was second place at Emerald while Jordan Iker won the Open Saddle Bronc Ride at Emerald.
The next Rodeo in Queensland is the Dirranbandi Show Rodeo this weekend on Saturday, April 7. They have a program of all roughstock events. The action starts at 5:30pm and you can purchase your ticket at the gate.
