The GRDC herbicide training workshops in Dalby and Pittsworth were delivered by Mark Congreve a chemical specialist from the Independent Consultants Australia Network.
The half-day workshops covered pre or post-emergent herbicides and delved into the science underpinning herbicide labels - offering those applying the products in the paddock insights into best practices for effective and efficient use.
Mr Congreve said the workshops were primarily targeted at agronomists, but also attracted a number of interested growers, with more than 40 people attending the workshops held over two days in southern Queensland.
“Herbicides are a significant input cost, so both growers and agronomists are motivated to learning more so they can maximise the effectiveness of these products,” he said.
Felton grower Vicki Green attended the Pittsworth herbicide training workshop and said it was an informative and engaging delivery of complex topics.
“As a grower or an advisor working in the grains industry, I think it is imperative we stay informed about the latest developments in herbicide use on-farm,” she said.
“This workshop reinforced what we need to be doing and highlighted the importance of best practice when it comes to tackling issues like herbicide resistance.”
The four workshops were held in Dalby, Pittsworth, Narrabri and Tamworth. More than 70 growers and agronomists attended the southern Queensland and northern NSW events.
