On a day when new maximum temperature records were made, the Mobbs family was not as fortunate with their on-property bull sale at Charleville on Thursday.
The exceedingly dry season continued to dictate terms, reflected in a sale average of $5526, down from the record 2016 average of $6531.
Blackall’s Lindsay and Gill Russell, Mt Macquarie Pastoral Co, paid the top price of $15,000 for Gowrie M209, a 21-month-old Simbrah bull weighing 755kg.
He was by Gowrie Duke, one of the Mobbs family’s favourite sires, who was killed in a lightning strike in a storm.
The top-priced Simmental bull was Goldpark M260, sold to MC and AC Noon, Glenalvon, Mitchell for $11,000.
Of the 100 bulls offered, 95 were sold.
