Another Ekka has come and gone with our young auctioneers doing their companies proud at the ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition. There was a great outcome for GDL with our young auctioneers taking out the titles of winner and runner-up. Congratulations to Nick Shorten from Roma and Andrew Carcary, Blackall. All up GDL fielded four of the 10 finalists in the competition.
It was great to see such strong GDL representation. For many years GDL has invested in the professional development of our young auctioneers from on the job training to ALPA auctioneer schools.
These young agents are the future of our business and the industry. All finalists were a credit to themselves and their profession. It was another great competition and shows the future of our industry is in good hands.
For those of you who were unable to attend the Ekka, hopefully you still had the chance to see the ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition livestreamed. We have heard some interesting places from where people have watched the competition including in the paddock, at the yards on the road.
This is the second year we have livestreamed the competition and it is becoming a great success. The competitors are not only competing in front of the Ekka crowd, but to a world wide audience. This year the livestream reached more than 95,000 people.
The night before the competition, a record 225 competitor’s friends, family and industry members attended the annual ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition Dinner. The dinner is a celebration of the young auctioneers and the agency industry. A highlight of the night was the charity auction, conducted by last year’s ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition winner Jake Smith of Landmark in Roma.
$15,330 was raised at the auction. The funds will be donated to the John Logan Foundation, a not-for-profit charity that offers financial support to people diagnosed with cancer.
The Foundation assists by contributing to the cost of prescribed treatments and procedures that are not available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
All members are reminded that the ALPA AGM is on in Adelaide, 20 October. Following the AGM there are great line up guest speakers for the ALPA member seminar including ALPA solicitor Chris Zucker, Justin Fleming from TruckSafe and Paul Leonard from Thomas Food International.
