The Ascot Neimen Annual Braford Bull Sale was a hit in Banana today, with a top price of $16,000.
The sale saw 38 of 43 bulls offered sell for a gross of $186,500, an average of $4908, and a clearance of 88 per cent.
Top priced bull was lot five – Neimen Genius 527, a 35 month old polled bull sired by Little Valley Boyd weighing 838kg with a scrotal circumference of 38cm, and an EMA of 135sq cm.
Genius sold over the phone to F Bird and S Baker, Early Storms, Rolleston, for $16,000.
The volume buyer of the sale was Allambee Cattle Company, Allambee, Rolleston, who went home with eight new bulls grossing $27,000 for an average of #3375.
Spending big was LC and JK Muller, Orchid Vale, Rolleston, who purchased four bulls for a gross of $37,000, and an average of $9250.
Second top priced bull was purchased by the Muller’s for $12,000. The bull, Herd Bull 259, was a polled bull weight 876kg, with an EMA of 133sq cm, and a scrotal circumference of 37cm.
Also buying big at the sale was Sam Crawford, Julia Creek, who purchased five bulls for a gross of $16,500 and an average of $3300.
Ascot Neimen’s Dan Galloway said he was very happy with the result from the sale.
“We had good repeat buyers, the bulls looked good, we were happy with how they presented, they all went to good homes, and we had some new buyers which also was a big help today,” he said.
He said Genius was one of two picks to top the sale.
“We had high hopes, we had a lot of interest – he must have appealed in the photos, he had a lot of muscle,” he said.
“His thickness, the volume of the bull, he’s not a very tall bull but he weighs a lot, he’s got a good nature and he’s very quiet.”
With both the buyer and the underbidder buying over the phone, as well as Auctions Plus purchases, Mr Galloway said it was important to continue to embrace technology at sales.
“People find it hard to get away these days and if we can save them a few hours travel, it’s a good thing,” he said.
