It was a triumphant return to Warwick Saleyards for the grand champion pen of steers at this year’s George & Fuhrmann Warwick Bullock and Steers Show and Sale.
The champion pen of five Charolais-cross steers, exhibited by David and Amanda Bonner, Eukey via Stanthorpe, was previously purchased by the family from Warwick Saleyards to prepare for the show and sale competition.
“The steers were feed a grain ration for the past 90 days after we selected and bought the pen of steers out of Warwick Saleyards,” Mrs Bonner said.
The Bonner family have entered the Warwick steer show and sale previously but have never won the grand champion prize.
“The season has been very dry in our region so grain feeding the steers was the best way to go,” Mrs Bonner said.
“It’s been a tough and dry time for many people so it’s great to see all the effort cattle producers have gone to enter in this year’s competition.”
The grand champion pen of steers sold to 280c/kg for 628kg to return $1759/head during the sale portion of the competition with them purchased by Teys Australia. The grand champion prize was sponsored by George & Fuhrmann, Maydan Pastoral Co and Eclipse.
