A CROWD of 90 people flocked to the Mungindi Golf Club for the Mungindi Cotton Growers Association Annual Charity Golf Day on September 1.

This year’s event saw $13,000 raised and donated to 11 community groups from Mungindi.
Event organiser Sam Heagney said the Cotton Growers Association was overwhelmed with the generosity of the event’s sponsors.
“It means so much to the community to receive this sort of support from the cotton industry,” he said.
“The community groups who have received donations today are extremely grateful. Every dollar counts to keeping these community groups operating”
To cater to a wider, non-golfing audience, the organising committee changed the format to a nine hole, three person ambrose event, with novelties such as “blindfolded putting” and the “toilet seat tee off”.
Players downed clubs at midday for a gourmet, marquee lunch catered by the Mungindi Community Pre-school.
At lunch the platinum sponsors presented donations to the eleven recipients of the charity day donations.
The community groups who received donations were Mungindi Home for the Aged, Mungindi Hospital Auxiliary, Mungindi Community Pre-school, Munginidi Central School Pre-school, St Joseph’s Catholic School, Mungindi Fishing Club, Mungindi Junior Netball, Mungindi Little Athletics, Mungindi Golf Club, Mungindi Catholic Church and Mungindi Anglican Church.
Simon Corish, represented Cotton Australia, presented a cheque to the Mungindi Fishing Club, which will be used to fund a fingerling release into the Barwon River at Mungindi.
Mungindi Cotton Growers Association President, Anthony Barlow said it was great to see the cotton industry supporting small communities and the new nine hole and lunch format was a success.
