THE competition was hot at Paradise Lagoons on finals day, with the Wyena Juvenile Draft bringing out the best in 12 young competitors.
But it was Paige Angel, Barwin Station, near Collinsville, on Classy 49er who took away the win with 171 points.
In a tied second place just behind Paige on 169 points apiece were Benjamin Parker on Christmas Spin, and Ryan Day on Catastrophic.
Paige, 16, is a Year 12 student at the Glenden State High School.
”I ride horses every day pretty much,” she said.
“I've been riding horses since I could walk, I always had little ponies then started riding Jason's old horses and here we are.”
She said taking out the win at Paradise Lagoons was “really awesome”.
“It's excellent, it was very nervewracking,” she said.
“I didn't do very well all week until the juveniles.
“I went in the novice on a horse I've had since I was eight, and I've had two runs in the ladies, and then the juvenile.”
After she finishes school, Paige said she hoped to find work on a cattle property.
“This is my second last juvenile event ever,” she said.
“It's a pretty great feeling, definitely thanks to Nikki Marshall for letting me ride her horse, he's a deadly little fella.”
