The Roma Cities Rugby League Club faithfuls gathered at Bassett Park on Saturday for their inaugural Race Day.
The luncheon included a Q&A with former Cities legends, Ron Pollock and Andy Arthur who entertained the crowd with stories from their playing days.
Andy Arthur, who played in the early 1070s, said it was a time when the entire community turned out to watch footy on a Sunday.
“This was before everyone had TV and before the internet and mobile phones and that’s just what everyone did on Sunday,” he said.
The Cities Race Day was the second race meeting in the Roma Turf Club’s Winter Carnival.
The third and final Winter Carnival race meet will be a TAB event, the Mounts Machinery & PFD Food Services Footy & Fillies Race Day on July 29.
For that day, the Roma State College P&C will team up with the Carnarvon Cubs Junior Rugby League Club and the Maranoa Netball Association to host a big day of junior netball and rugby league followed by a luncheon, live entertainment and six race program.
