More than 80 young Hereford enthusiasts attended the 2017 Herefords Australia National Youth Show over the weekend.
Held at the Pittsworth Showgrounds, the three-day camp was an opportunity for youngsters aged from seven to 25 to gather together to network and build their industry knowledge.
Arriving on Thursday, the participants were broken up into five groups and were all exposed to a range of speakers on topics such as MSA grading, digital and print media, auctioneering, public speaking, nutrition, animal health and also parading.
The older groups also toured Oakey Beef Exports and Kerwee Feedlot where they learned about other parts of the beef supply chain.
There was also a national competition which saw eight competitors represent their home state in parading, herdsman, junior judging and public speaking.
Queensland’s Aleacea Nixon was named National Champion while South Australia’s Georgie Beighton was named Most Potential Hereford Breeder and won a stud Hereford heifer donated by Yagaburne Poll Herefords.
This award went went to the competitor of any age who showed the most potential to breed Hereford cattle and make a positive impact on the breed.
