Emergency services were called to the Oakey Beef Exports meat processing plant at Oakey, west of Toowoomba, about 6.30am.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the facility had been evacuated.
Paramedics were on standby but a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said no one appeared to have been exposed to the chemical at this stage.
According to the NH Foods Australia website, Oakey Beef Exports is one of the state's largest beef processing plants, with about 750 employees.
