This included a record one day's gross for Magic Millions at any auction in the company's 31 year history when 255 fillies and mares sold for almost $45 million on Day One, Tuesday, May 30.
"The overall figures for the sale are just stunning," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.
"We're sitting on average of over $148,000, a gross of $105.53 million and a clearance rate of 84.5 percent. It's just a spectacular result for all those who participated. There was a lot of international competition on horses. Obviously the domestic market was very strong on the back of the huge year of results from the yearling sales around the country."
"The results speak volumes for the Australian industry generally and I'm just so very proud of the Magic Millions team. We threw a lot more horses onto every session and our auctioneers stepped up and sold at a quicker rate and as a result we got through the days a lot earlier than we anticipated," he said.
Seven mares topped the million dollars mark with top price honours going to former outstanding Melbourne based racemare Gregers sold for $1.75 million on Day 3. She surpassed the $1.7 million paid on Day 1 for Group 2 winning 3YO filly Nurse Kitchen (Savabeel/Flying Monty) sold by Peter and Sarah Moody.
A Group 2 winning daughter of Commands from the winning Canny Lad mare Satnav and presented in foal to Written Tycoon, Gregers was offered by Burke Bloodstock (as agent) and bought by Yu Long Investments’ Yousheng Zhang who outlasted John Freyer, bidding on behalf of leading Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida.
The second top seller on Day 3 was proven producer Polska who sold for $1.6 million. The dam of Group 2 winners Catch A Fire and Seaburge was offered by Widden Stud on behalf of the Gold Coast-based Henderson family and was bought by New Zealand based bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne. The mare is carrying a full relation to those stars being in foal to leading sire Sebring – a Golden Slipper winner co-owned by the Henderson family as part of a Star Racing syndicate.
Mares in foal to leading sire and former Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate Snitzel starred on Day Two. The champion Arrowfield Stud based stallion was the covering sire of both lots to sell for more than $1 million.
Group 1 winner and proven stakes producer The Party Stand was the top seller when she was sold to Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland for $1.1 million. The Party Stand was offered by Segenhoe Stud Australia on behalf of the Camilleri family's Fairway Thoroughbreds - the breeder of the world's highest rated turf horse Winx.
By Group 1 QTC Stradbroke winner Thorn Park, The Party Stand won the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes and is now the dam of promising 3YO stakes placed filly Petition – a member of the Freedman stable who was bought as a yearling by Nicoll for $560,000.
The other mare in foal to Snitzel to star on Day Two was Comprende, an I Am Invincible Group 3 performed Adelaide winner, who sold to Widden Stud in partnership with David Lucas for $1.05 million. Comprende was presented by Willow Park Stud on behalf of businessman Rod Menzies.
Two other lots sold for $1.15 million on Day 1 – Group 3 winner Petits Filous (Street Boss/Excellent Lady) and young Group 1 winning broodmare Soriano.
