Last weekend Cloncurry was host to a two day ACA Youth Camp, which was well attended by over 30 children ranging from 8 to 17 years. A big thanks is extended to the Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge and Campdraft Committee for hosting the event.
The Youth Camp covered the basics of campdrafting including, rules, cattle work, dry work and general horse welfare just to name a few. The camp was facilitated by Ben Stanger and Brooke Fitzgerald who were eager to share their knowledge with the next generation of campdrafters.
“It was good for the children to learn from riders who can draft successfully and take into account the skills they use to win drafts, including how to cut out, track and move the beast around the course,” said nominations secretary Kim Robertson.
Opportunities and support are available for committees to host their own successful ACA Youth Camp by contacting the ACA office, to provide members with the fundamentals of campdrafting and ensure they are competing in a safe, fun and confident manner.
