But, that’s exactly what Manny Sorley from Bell got to do during Malcolm Turnbull’s visit to the small town’s local show.
“I started making and entering my Jam Drop biscuits in the local Bell Show during the early 1980s and have been doing it ever since,” Mrs Sorley said.
“It was my husband who said I should put my Jam Drops in the local show, but I was pretty reluctant to do it.
“Who would’ve thought I’d now have the Prime Minister of Australia eating my Jam Drop biscuits.”
It’s reported the PM graciously accepted the small tray of specially made Jam Drops and Queensland Country Life has confirmed with his media advisers he thoroughly enjoyed the sweet treats after a long day’s work, even apparently going back for a second Jam Drop biscuit.
It’s no surprise the PM went back for another biscuit with Mrs Sorley being award the Bell Show’s Jam Drops annual competition winner 12 times.
“It’s pretty exciting and I’m thrilled the Prime Minister liked my Jam Drop biscuits,” she said.
“I felt honored to be asked to make the biscuits for Mr Turnbull during his visit to our local show.”
Mrs Sorley is reluctant to reveal the secrets in making her prizing winning Jam Drops, but did mention an even mixture and equal sized biscuits is very important in creating the perfect Jam Drops.
“I think our Bell Show Jam Drops competition is now on the map and I hope it raises the profile of our small rural community,” she said.
“I’m hoping everyone gets to know more about our town of Bell, even if it’s just for the famous Jam Drop biscuits.”
