Many local and Brisbane-based trainers, breeders and enthusiasts joined the tour which included Wattle Brae, Eureka and Oaklands studs on the first day and Lyndhurst and Raheen the following day.
Tour host and Magic Millions bloodstock consultant James Dawson was delighted with the turnout over both days and hosted their Gold Coast March Yearling Sale Launch Evening on Thursday which catered for 60 local trainers and prospective buyers.
Queensland Country Life joined the tour on the first afternoon and visited Scott McAlpine’s iconic Eureka Thoroughbred stud at Cambooya where we inspected their draft of 49 yearlings bound for the Gold Coast sale on March 20 and 21.
The Eureka draft is the largest in the March catalogue and features the first-crop of Queensland champion Spirit Of Boom which the McAlpine family bred, sold, raced and now stands the multiple Group One winner.
Spirit Of Boom is a 2009 Magic Millions March graduate which sold for $90,000 and is represented by 44 siblings in the March Yearling Sale.
Later that afternoon we visited Neville Stewart’s Oaklands stud at Wyreema to inspect his superbly presented Magic Millions March draft which received plenty of favourable comments.
One of standouts in the Oaklands draft was a big, strong colt by Group One winning miler, Helmet, from the well-bred mare with plenty of black type in Sweet Sugar. He is quality from nose to tail and sells as lot 292.
