Jackson: A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral of the late Ella Robinson at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Toowoomba on Friday January 20. Ella, who fought a courageous battle with cancer over the past years was well known through the cattle stud industry, particularly Herefords. Ella and her husband, John, have conducted the Pinora Hereford Stud and have successfully run the Pinora Stud Selling Complex for many years. Our condolences to John and family.

Chinchilla: Terry Ryan, area manager, Landmark, reported the Chinchilla and Western Downs areas as very patchy. The town area has received up to 15cm (6 inches) over the past four weeks but some areas have had very little rain. Terry said that from Auburn to the top end of Mundubbera is extremely dry. Cattle generally over the Chinchilla area are in good condition. He reported that the 10th Annual Classic Horse Sale will be held in Tamworth from February 9 – 12 with 620 registered quarter horses and stock horses to be sold.
Quilpie: Tony Lilburne, area manager, GD, reported the Quilpie, Windorah, Birdsville areas as in generally fairly good order. However, there are still a few areas that have missed out on the storms. Good falls were received around the Birdsville area around January 22. Tony said that stock are in good store to forward condition. All producers are looking forward to a good general wet season.
Dalby: I caught up with Peter Daniel, GDL, Dalby, who informed me that the season to the north and east of Dalby is generally good, however to the south and south west is very ordinary at the moment. Peter said that the Dalby Combined Agents expect to yard in excess of 4500 cattle at this week’s sale. He told me that the Dalby Saleyards will soon become EU accredited, which will be very useful for all EU producers.
Goondiwindi: Darren (Frog) Smith, livestock manager, Landmark, told me that the season around the town is very good at the moment, and to the east and up the river in fairly good order. To the west and north is very patchy and ordinary in places. There have been some patchy storms north of Bungunya and Flinton. Darren said the stock are in fairly good order with some producers in the drier areas looking to offload while the market is very strong.
Roma: There was a yarding of over 5000 cattle at Roma on Tuesday. Andrew Holt, manager, Landmark, reported a very good draft of 365 feeder steers from the Nugent family at Tambo was offered. These quality Santa steers sold from 346.2 to 359.2c/kg. Patchy storms have been received over the Maranoa during the past week.
