Our children need to know where their food and fibre comes from and they need to know there are many opportunities to get a job in agriculture.
AgForce’s School to Industry Partnership Program engages school students of all ages with agriculture and shows them the important role it plays in our lives.
It also provides professional development opportunities and support for our agricultural educators, and next week we will host a special conference highlighting the latest techniques and technology used to teach agriculture in schools.
Farming has changed significantly over the years and today’s educators need to know how modern agriculture is adapting to continue to feed and clothe us sustainably while also protecting the environment for future generations.
The theme of ‘Ideas to Grow With’ has been chosen for next week’s conference, and our goal is to bring cutting-edge technology concepts to the classrooms, to foster learning, inspiration and wonder – to ensure our teachers are equipped to teach the next generation of our industry.
The conference will run over four days starting next Monday and feature a range of guest speakers with extensive experience in all aspects of agriculture, exciting industry tours led by experts in their fields and a choice of hands-on workshops from various sectors.
Teachers will be up-skilled on current agricultural practices and equipped with the knowledge of the wide range of career and training opportunities for students in plants, animal, science and rural industries.
It will also demonstrate that the primary industries are a valuable and high tech industry operating at the cutting-edge of science and technology and bring agriculture back into the forefront of education by showing teachers that agriculture is vital to our future prosperity.
I’d like to thank all our sponsors for their support of the conference and in particular, thank you to the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, which has funded the School to Industry Partnership Program for more than a decade.
