ROLY and Brigitte Hughes say the success of their Quilpie property Cudgee has been the simple recipe of excellent water, strong constitution of country and a low cost operation that is easy to manage.
This 34,054 hectare (84,149 acre) grazing property is located 120km south east of Quilpie and has a solid reputation for its strong country type and ability to produce regardless of the season.
Cudgee will be auctioned by Ruralco Property GDL Real Estate in Quilpie on October 28.
The Hughes bought Cudgee 20 years ago to run in conjunction with their home block Autumnvale at Thargomindah. This acquisition has worked very well for the family and has provided options and opportunities in their day to day operation as well as increasing the economy of scale in their business.
Cudgee is described as a perfect stand-alone grazing operation or a good parcel of country to run in conjunction with another operation.
The Hughes have run both sheep and cattle on the property successfully. Their main focus, however, has been on breeding Merino sheep, with good lambing percentages and producing good framed sheep that produce high yielding, quality wool, which the Quilpie/ Toompine district is renowned.
Extensive fencing work has been carried out with most boundary fences renewed in the last 20 years, including 64km in the past two years. The property is divided into nine main and three holding paddocks. There is a good balance of country with the added benefit of 10,000ha of flood-out country.
Improvements include a three bedroom home, cottage, quarters, shed /workshop, raised board shearing shed, and sheep and cattle yards. An artesian bore situated in the middle of the property services tanks, troughs and dams.
