JUST a single point has handed the title of supreme champion cow to the Jersey entry at this year’s Ekka, squeezing out last year’s Holstein winner.
Exhibited by industry veterans Pat and Trish McDonald, Murwillumbah, the rising six year old Kenaire Jade Finch drew praise from the competition’s six judges for all overall structure and milk production abilities.
In second place was the champion Holstein cow, seven year old Glenalbas Goldwyn Olivia (Braeside Goldwyn/Glenalbas Prelude Olivia), shown by the Arabella Farming Company, Brookstead. Reserve Wild Oats Shottle, a six year old shown by the Cochrane family, Amamoor. Intermediate winner was Arabella’s Arabella Jettair Dotti. The Clark Partnership’s Clarkdale Defiant Bronze from Lismore was the reserve. Arabella also had the junior champion with the eight month old Arabella Doorman Ding. Reserve was Showcase Windbrook Satin, shown by Dan and Erin Brown, Gladstone.

Intermediate: Adadale HG Narcissus, Paulger family, Kenilworth. Reserve: Nobbyview Renegades. Junior female: Tyjon Verbatim Vitee, TJ Barron, Cambooya. Reserve: Glen Echo Moon Dixie, Aaron Tippett, Petrie.
Guernsey winners included champion cow: Sunny Valley Activate Uralla, Clark Partnership, Lismore. Intermediate: Sunny Valley Bevan Caleen. Reserve: Sunny Valley Y Bear Crescent. Junior: Sunny Valley Activate Kendall. Reserve: Fernybank Banjos Netta, Dunne family, Josephville.
In the Ayrshire ring Peter Edwards, Toogoolawah, exhibited the champion cow Auchen Plumb Dreamer Dix, which earlier won the three to four year old in milk class. Reserve was the Schneider family’s Tailor’s Grove Hokey Pokey, which won the five to seven year old in milk class. Champion intermediate was the Bunya-based Templemore family’s three year old Templemore Lily. Reserve intermediate was Sunny Days Truffles shown by the Schneider family, D’Aguilar. Auchen Plumb Titans Tatiana was named the junior female ahead of Sunny Park Topaz.
In the Brown Swiss ring the tri-ribbon went to the Melalukea Magnafic Jolly, an eight year old shown by Melissa Thompson and Steven Childs, Toogoolawah. Reserve was Gladstone-based Dan and Erin Brown’s Classic Baxter Slinky, a seven year old. The Browns’ had the champion intermediate female with Classic Jongleur Schmick ahead of Thompson and Childs’ Elavesor Thunder Mini Surprise, which was named reserve. The Brown’s also had the junior female with the dry two year old Classic Jet Fantasy and the junior reserve with Classic Gold Phingar.
The champion Illawarra cow was was shown by JP Bourke and Co, Gladfield. Allen and Denise Whatman, Oakey, had the reserve champion with Allen Vale Blossom 16. Rob and Joanna Lindsay, Warwick, exhibited the champion intermediate with Silverleigh Cindy 106. Reserve was Jondene Honeysuckle 6 shown by FS Johnson and Sons, Imbil. Champion junior was the Henry family’s White Park Melba 417 from Hodgonsvale. Reserve was the Whatmore’s Allenvale Blossom 33.
