THE North Star Polo Club at the heart of the Golden Triangle has been integral in bringing bush polo back to life.
Regional polo events now attracting large crowds as far afield as Toowoomba, Goondiwindi, North Star and Scone.
The North Star Polo Tournament was held Saturday August 6 and 7, on the Doolin family fields at North Star.
North Star took on Ellerston in a fast paced A Grade Final which saw North Star in control for most of the game.
Ellerston eventually clawed their way back into contention thanks to Guy Kirkpatrick and Angus Gunn, but North Star proved too strong.
“It was a very hard fought against the scone side, winning by one goal, “North Star club captain Nick Benson said.
North Star have celebrated their win with Simon Doolin named most valuable player, and are back into training for this weekend’s Goondiwindi Tournament.
North Star is very much a family club for Simon, his father, grandfather and uncles have all played for the club and he now plays in the A grade team alongside his brother Angus.
“It was a fantastic weekend it was just a great country tournament, and everyone was enjoying the bush hospitality, “Simon said.
“The quality and speed of the game seems fantastic and the blokes we are playing against show top notch sportsmanship and comradery.”

The North Star B grade competition was taken out by raging underdogs Bettington Rural who won by a single goal. The Goondiwindi Polo Tournament is set to be held this weekend August 12 and 13, trailing a new Friday and Saturday tournament which will allow the club, organisers and players to enjoy the celebrations Goondiwindi Polo Tournament is known for.
“It’s an opportunity to see great bush polo played in good spirit in front of a large crowd, the North Star boys are excited because we realise the job is only half done,” Mr Benson said.
Entry on the day is $15 at the gate, for access to all the fast paced polo action featuring 21 Teams including the likes of Ellerston, Scone, Quirindi, Gold Coast, Gympie, Toowoomba, and the Darling Downs.
Families are encouraged to come along for a picnic sideline, or pull up a hay bale to take in the sport of kings.
The event is a casual polo affair so no race wear and nothing too shiny.
Tailored pants, blazers and boots are always a safe bet for the ladies, as the ground can be a little uneven on the sideline.
The weather is warming up for beautiful days but the nights tend to run cool.
There will be a bonfire come nightfall and a live band from Brisbane.
