TWO well-known farms in the Central Highlands’ famed golden triangle district formerly owned by the failed Bandanna Energy company will be auctioned on September 2.
The properties – Cedar Park and Denlo Park – were purchased in 2014 as part of a proposed mine development. The country totalling 5136 hectares (12,690 acres) including 4360ha (10,770 acres) of farming country was subsequently leased to local farmers.
The properties are being offered by Ray White Rural Emerald on behalf of Robert Hutson and David Winterbottom of KordaMentha, who are the receivers and managers of Springsure Property Holdings, which is in liquidation.
Denlo Park covers 2230ha (5510 acres) and is situated 35km north east of Springsure. This property is noted for its quality brigalow, bonewood and belah scrub soils and its rich Springsure Creek flats. Some 1860ha has been developed for cultivation comprising 1114ha of dryland farming and 746ha which has previously been irrigated. The irrigation water is harvested as unmetered overland flow from Springsure Creek.
Irrigation water is stored in four dams totalling some 5800ml. Other improvements include a four bedroom homestead, two cottages, silos, machinery shed, chemical storage shed, and an airstrip.
Cedar Park is located about 12km south east of Denlo Park. The 2906ha (7180 acre) property is principally undulating soft self-mulching black soils downs with pockets of scrub soil. Improvements include a three bedroom homestead, quarters, machinery shed and silos.
Marketing agent Russell Lindley said the overland flow irrigation scheme on Denlo Park has always been regarded as one most functional and successful schemes on the highlands.
“Following good rainfalls in June and early July, both properties currently have a full moisture profile and will be sold bare of any crops,” Mr Lindley said.
“The receivers are endeavoring to present the properties in as good as condition that could be reasonably expected under the circumstances and as such a full weed control program is currently being carried out to preserve moisture.
“Further, the contracts of sale will allow for early access for the successful Purchaser/s for agronomy purposes including planting, field maintenance and preparation.
“The sale of these properties gives intending buyers the opportunity to acquire larger scale farming properties in what is recognised farming country in a tightly held area, ready to plant spring crops if the buyer desires.”
