Mareeba Combined Agents yarded a total of 1359 head for this week’s Prime and Store Sale.
Values across most slaughter lines remained firm on last week’s strong rates. Young good quality store cattle sold very well. Lines of young steers sold to over 320c/kg, store heifers made over 300c/kg, store mickeys made over 340c/kg.
Two major export processors, one local butcher, and about five central, western and southern re-stockers attended.
Most of the local growers and fatteners found it hard to get in on the action with rates for young cattle being as strong as ever for this time of the year.
Local processors battled with the major export slaughter buyers to secure steers and heifers. Local wholesale cows didn’t reach the high value of last week’s top of 249c/kg.
