KEV Brown has been a butcher for more years than he wanted to admit – but the Rockhampton local said he has been in the game long enough to know his way around a sausage.
Kev owns Kev Brown’s Butchery in Rockhampton, and said it was not his first Sausage King win, but he was pretty stoked to walk away with the pork sausage first prize.
He said the pork sausages, made with pork from Kingaroy, were a definite favourite with his customers.
“Oh they’re really popular,” he said.
“But to win in that one is special, gourmet sausages can come and go but everyone loves a beef or pork sausage.”
Kev said what he loves most about his business was not winning awards – it was seeing his customers come in every day and giving them top-quality meat.
And despite us asking – Kev said he wouldn’t be able to give up the special ingredient, or he would have to kill us.
Kev will now go on to compete at the Ekka.
