A TOTAL of 288 riders and their horses from all over South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales took to the field to battle for a win at Toowoomba’s annual polocrosse carnival over the weekend.
A favourable weather forecast encouraged large numbers of players with almost 50 teams supporting the club, which has had to cancel five carnivals in the past 10 years due to rain.
Toowoomba Polocrosse Club president Joanne Lossberg said they had a great roll-up.
“48 teams came to compete, and apart from the wind, it was perfect polocrosse weather,” she said.
In the Sunday finals, Wandoan Polocrosse Club came away victorious, taking out the win against a new-look Tansey team in the A grade competition, as well as first place in D grade.
Tansey’s normal A grade side was away competing at the New South Wales Championship’s.
Best Horse and Rider in A Grade was awarded to Wandoan’s John Bowling.
