QUEENSLAND’S stallion ranks for the forthcoming 2016/17 breeding season have been boosted with the arrival of at least five new first season sires.
The Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association webnews recently featured these new sires.
Rich Enuff – Glenlogan Park
Just like his own sire, Written Tycoon, and his grandsire, Iglesia, Rich Enuff won up to Group 2 level with power and speed typical of many of Australia’s top class stallions. Rich Enuff beat future Group 1 winners Brazen Beau, Awesome Rock and Wandjina in a career that saw him labelled the most explosive sprinter of his age group. When winning the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington, Rich Enuff stopped the clock at a blistering 1:08.13 – the fastest a 3YO colt has ever run down the Flemington straight six this century! Written Tycoon added another black type winner on Saturday when 2YO colt Winning Rupert won the Group 2 Champagne Classic at Doomben.
Sntizem – Double A Quarter Horse Stud
Snitzem is a 7YO stallion by Snitzel from a half-sister to Rouquin. Snitzel has set the yearling sales alight in recent times, topping several auctions and now has a handful of sons at stud, including Shamus Award, Sizzling, Wandjina and Time For War. Snitzem was a talented racehorse, winning seven races and placing a further 19 times for $218,376 in prizemoney. His placings included a third in the Group 2 SAJC Centrebet Classic and third in the Group 3 MVRC Ian McEwen Stakes. In his latter race, he was beaten by Group 1 winners Bel Sprinter and Platelet. His seven wins include three at Moonee Valley over sprint distances.
Jabali – Eliza Park International
Runner up to Earthquake in the Group 1 Blue Diamond, Jabali won the Group 2 Queensland Guineas, which has also been won by top sires Sizzling, Rothesay and Turffontein. Jabali was an outstanding juvenile and had 13 of his 17 starts at black-type level. Jabali is by champion Australian sire Exceed and Excel from a stakes placed daughter of multiple Group.2 winner Love of Mary and is closely related to Hong Kong’s champion sprinter Sacred Kingdom.
Prince Cheri – Royston Stud
A Group 3 winner of four races, Prince Cheri (Fr) was a versatile top class competitor. His sire Lando was twice German Horse of the Year and a seven-time Group.1 including the German Derby and the Japan Cup while his dam line is also impressive. His second dam Princess Liberte produced the German Group.1 winning Horse of the Year Prince Flori, by Lando, making him a three-quarter brother to Prince Cheri.
Pure White – Royston Stud
Pure White is a unique addition to the Queensland Thoroughbred scene. He carries both the Dominant White and the frame overo gene and has a chestnut base. The colour of his off spring can vary greatly depending on the base colour of the mare. Pure White’s sire, Profile in Style (USA) was the first framed overo (coloured) Thoroughbred stallion in the southern hemisphere registered with the Australian Stud Book. This well bred sire can trace his lines back to the great Secretariat (USA) and Halo. Pure White’s dam Laughyoumay is the first Dominant White Category 22 mare in the entire world. Her sire, Sky Chase (NZ) won three Group 1 races and sired Saintly whose four Group 1 wins included the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Australian Cup.
Beaudesert charity race day
CANCER Council Queensland will again be the major beneficiary of the annual Beaudesert Hibernian Charity race day to be held at the Beaudesert race course on Sunday, May 22.
There are two important things to note about this year’s event. The first is that it is a full TAB meeting with seven races and the second is that it will again be held on a Sunday instead of the traditional Saturday.
This year’s program is again being heavily promoted in south-east Queensland including Radio TAB and Queensland Country Life. Feature event is the $20,000 Beaudesert Hibernian Cup over 2450m for Benchmark 70 horses. This year’s Cup has extra prestige as it is a heat of the Winter Provincial Series with the Final being held on Ipswich Cup Day on June 18.
Club president Tim Kelly said this year marked 120 years since the club’s earliest beginnings were stirred and 67 years since the first charity race meeting under the Hibernian banner was held in the Beaudesert district.
As usual a big marquee will be erected for the charity luncheon which includes a three course lunch, live music, a fashion parade and raffles. For luncheon bookings phone 0400 725700 and for general information contact Tim Kelly, phone (07) 5541 4722 or 0418 736 315
