Morven has become the town with no pub after the Morven Hotel Motel burnt down in a fire last night.
The alarm was raised at about 2.30am but nothing to could be done to save the timber building.
No one was injured in the blaze and members of the local rural fire brigade managed to save several surrounding buildings.
Vicky Burey runs the Morven Newsagent and said it was “heartbreaking” for the local community.
“It was our only pub and it was pretty much the heart and soul of the town,” she said.
“There used to be another pub – The Royal – but it burnt down about 15 years ago. It’s very upsetting – I doubt they would rebuild it.”
It’s unclear who owned the lease on the Hotel but locals say it was for sale.
Police and emergency services are continuing their investigations into the cause of the fire.
