THE shearers were going full steam this week at Cooinda, near Warwick, despite frequent rainfall in southern Queensland.

Some 5000 to 6000 Merinos will be shorn over 12 days on the Finlay family's property as part of their annual autumn shearing.
Wool classer Cam Smith said all things considered, it's been an exceptional season so far.

"Generally it's been a good wool growing year up until this point," he said.
"With the constant wet weather, it's not drying out as quickly as it should.
"It's detracting from quality a little bit and bringing out a bit more colour in the wool, as you'd expect."
Mr Smith said the fine-medium type of wool they were shearing will still go into the trade as premium-style wool.
