UPCOMING weaner sales around the NSW New England region will prove a major attraction for regional cattlemen - be they feedlotters, backgrounders or grass finishers.
On Friday April 12, Glen Innes Associated Agents will conduct its annual Blue Ribbon weaner sale, commencing at 9am.
This sale will be followed in subsequent weeks by the Hereford and crossbred sale on April 19 and a feature Angus and crossbred sale on May 3.
Some 2500 head of mixed sex weaners will be offered representing many local and surrounding district's leading commercial producers. Included in the yarding will be 420 weaned steers and 220 weaned heifers.
Barry Newberry, Newberry teVelde Carige, says there are many feature lots entered in his company's draft, including 150 Angus steers and 50 Angus heifers on account GH Melling, Bullwarra, Glen Innes and 140 Charolais/Angus mixed sex weaners account Raintree Management, Warra Wee, Swanvale. As well, 100 Charolais/Angus mixed sex weaners acccount PM&EE Halloran, Wanderlea, Glen Innes and 100 Santa /Angus mixed sex weaners from RE&JA Sheedy, Rosehill, Glen Innes, will surely attract keen competition.
Featured in the Elders draft will be a line of Angus - 80 steers and 40 heifers from AK Lewis, Hendersons, Glen Innes and a line of Maine Anjou weaners, 60 steers and 40 heifers from JR Coleman, Emily Park, Glen Innes.
Brad Newsome, Landmark's manager said the Landmark yarding would include 200 yard weaned Angus steers and heifers from FL Donnelly and Co, Cairnbrook, Rangers Valley.
Another feature line of weaners will be the 120 mixed-sex Angus calves on from M&P Turnbull, Tarcoodie, Glen Elgin, via Glen Innes.
Colin Say and Co will offer on behalf of Rod and Kay Laurie, Tulach Ard Pastoral Co, Glencairn, Glen Innes, 155 Angus and Angus cross steers.
Say and Co's Craig Thomas says his company's yarding will feature top lines from Glenmore P/ship, Glenmore, Glen Innes, 100 Angus mixed sex weaners, 100 Angus/Santa steer weaners, from Glen Legh Pastoral Co, Glen Legh Station, Glen Innes, 100 Angus steers from Yarraford Trust, Yarraford Station and 100 Angus and Angus/Shorthorn mixed sex weaners from Peter and Helen Smith, Gowanbrae, Glen Innes.
Many smaller lines comprising Angus, Hereford, Charolais, their crosses and Murray Grey, Santa and Shorthorn crosses make up the yarding thus ensuring lines to suit most buyers.
