SPENDING money on race horses can be a lucrative gamble.
The recent publicity around the incredible 25th straight win by high-profile mare, Black Caviar and the public fall from grace of racing identity, Nathan Tinkler have ensured the racing industry is continually grabbing headlines in newspapers and leading news bulletins across the country.
The Central Queensland racing fraternity converged on the Rockhampton showgrounds on the weekend for the Capricornia Yearling sale.
A 19-month-old, Muzdaher colt, offered by the local, Laurel Glen Equine centre, was purchased for $40,000 to top the sale.
Agents worked hard at the completion of the sale to record the final results of 89 horses sold to average $8910 and an 86 per cent clearance.
An 18 month old, bay colt was sold by Patinack Farm, Benobble, for $30,000.
A chestnut grey filly, by Real Saga, also made $30,000.
Sale co-ordinator, Jeff Leaver said everything connected with the sale was extremely successful.
