MULGA is once again coming to the rescue of Wyandra sheep and cattle graziers Peter and Jan Lucas as they come to terms with what’s been a “pretty ordinary” season.

“Most people here are really struggling,” Peter told Queensland Country Life.
“We’ve got dry grass but there’s no guts left in it, it’s just breaking up and blowing away.”
They are down to 70 percent of their usual stock numbers and have turned to supplements and mulga to keep their sheep and cattle strong.
Recording only 28mm so far this year and no storm rain, one of their biggest issues is the lack of water.
The one dam they rely on has just a metre of water left.
“People to the west of us are nearly destocked and they’ve let their garden go,” Peter said.
“The Paroo is very low – there have been a couple of small runs from the north but it’s probably the lowest it’s ever been down here.”
Peter said he was prepared to keep pushing mulga but was very concerned about going into winter with so little grass and water.
Wyandra is located midway between Charleville and Cunnamulla in South West Queesland.
