Landmark Chinchilla auctioneer Terry Ryan said they have seen plenty of ups and downs over that period of time.
“It started off last year with the market very solid – plenty of prices - then three months ago we saw a dip in the market with very few peaks,” he said.
“But it certainly looks like the numbers are getting out of the way a little and the market is trying to recover from those downward trends.”
Mr Ryan said the heavy feeder market showed signs of strengthening at the sale, with prices about 4-5c/kg dearer.
“There are plenty of good quality weaners coming on to the market due to winter conditions and heavy frost during the week,” he said.
“Not a lot of oats crop cattle here yet, with people still feeding oats but overall a nice yarding of cattle.”
Meat and Livestock Australia's National Livestock Reporting Service reported the number of stock yarded was similar to the previous week.
Heavy yearling steers to feed averaged 9c/kg dearer.
Bullock prices averaged 2c better, however cows lifted in price with most improving 5c to 8c, with plain condition lines receiving very strong support from both restockers and processors.
Heavyweight yearling steers to feed averaged 172c, while medium-weight yearling heifers to feed settled on 132c.
Bullocks to slaughter averaged 165c, while heavy weight D4 cows to process settled on 129c.
