THE 2013 Paradise Lagoons Champion of Champions, Hugh Miles, Peel Valley, Tamworth NSW, reckons he got a bit lucky to win the illustrious title from a field of eight highly respected draft winners.

Selected after competing against other event winners, Nigel Kable, Karl Burton, Trent Challacombe, Jason Wanstall, Bruce McNaughton and Kerrie Thomson, Mr Miles combined with his 11 year old mare, Oaks Riverqueen, to win with a 94 and 92 from a two-man judging panel on the weekend at the Commonwealth Bank Agribusiness Paradise Lagoons Campdraft near Rockhampton, Queensland.
The event, one of the richest on the campdraft calendar in Australia, drew competitors from throughout the country over its five days of competitions, all hoping to win a slice of the $400,000 in prizemoney and trophies up for grabs.
Mr Miles won the Evans & Hearn CPA Supergirl Spectacular by one point from Steve Comiskey, Rod Fordham and Jason Philp, on his way to the top honour.
Nigel Kable, Farnleigh, Rydal NSW, and his amazingly successful stallion and current ABCRA open horse of the year, Chevin Ivory, gave themselves every chance to snatch the champion of champions’ trophy, winning two drafts over the weekend.
The dynamic duo won the Acton Super Beef Australian open draft by two points from Troy Palmer and Jabell Shekera Spin, and the Frasers Livestock Transport Stallion draft by three points from Glen Peterson and True Blue.
Dysart competitor and cattle property manager, Trent Challacombe, Picardy, and Sinful Destiny won the JBS Australia Swift Premium maiden draft.
Alpha rider, Kerri Thomson and Swift Miss, fought a close battle with Jaye Hall and just like Jess, to win the Wilangi Brahmans ladies draft, winning by one point.
The Angus Barrett Saddlery novice draft was won by Karl Burton, Box Ridge, Jondaryan, in combination with Bobadil Acres Dior.
Well-travelled Central Queensland drafter, Jason Wanstall, Cooinda, Collinsville, and Diablos Destino, won the Accor Hotels Queensland Open Campdraft.
The Mort & Co Rockhampton Open Draft was won by Bruce McNaughton and Golddust.
The Greenup Eidsvold Station Stockman’s Challenge was won by Jon Templeton and Double Your Money.
