GDL stud stock manager, Harvey Weyman-Jones and the stud stock team have been racking up the miles inspecting the 130 bulls being supplied by six vendors for the Balonne Invitation Bull Sale on Monday September 9, 40 kilometres south of St George at Myall Plains, Nindigully.
“Our vendors are committed to meeting the market and providing quality bulls at a realistic upset price, with no reserves,” he said.
To date sales have seen averages well back and reduced clearance rates.
“With poor cattle prices, reduced cow numbers and dry seasonal conditions in large parts of western Queensland and NSW we always knew the bull selling season would be under pressure.”
At a time when vendors could be reassessing their exposure to the market, Mr Weyman-Jones said the Balonne Invitation Bull Sale will proceed with the catalogued 50 Angus, 34 Santa Gertrudis, 24 Charolais, and 20 Brangus bulls.
“We’ve sought out the best vendors and selected the best bulls to produce results in our local conditions. We’ve inspected the bulls and can back their quality 100 percent,” he said.
The bulls will be offered by Carabar Angus Stud Meandarra, Lawsons Angus Stud Toobeah, Bullamakinka Santa Gertrudis Stud Bungunya, the Swan Hill Santa Gertrudis Stud Blackall, LVH Fairfield Charolais Stud Roma and Kajarabie Brangus Stud, St George.
Mr Weyman-Jones said limiting the number of vendors ensures a complete line of bulls can be presented.
“That gives buyers the opportunity to buy a line of bulls to produce consistent results in their paddock.”
He said buyers will be very selective this year knowing they are in an environment where they can expect to improve the quality of the bull they can afford.
“We are in a value for money market and commercial cattlemen will be focused on the bulls they know will produce growth and weight in their calves.”
He said the continued and improving consistency of the line-up at the Balonne Invitation Bull Sale had built trust and confidence with buyers.
“We’re seeing a big percentage of repeat buyers at Nindigully because they are confident of seeing a consistent line of very buyable bulls.”
“With general market opinion indicating prices will be back this year the 9th of September represents an opportunity for cashed-up cattlemen to gain better value for money.”
