Andrew and Madonna Douglas, and their two children Emma and Jack, invited guests to their cattle property, Springfield, south of Mitchell, to celebrate the big milestone.
In accordance with the family reunion and in commemoration of such a landmark event, Jan Shaw had the perfect opportunity to officially launch her book, Springfield 100 years: A history of Springfield, Mitchell and Region.
Members of the family, Ross, Jock and John Douglas, made speeches and told stories followed by a warm welcome to the gathering by Andrew Douglas, and an historical account by Jan Shaw.
Jan’s work truly signifies her dedication and passion for the family history.
The resulting collaboration is an evocative and remarkable account for future generations of the Mitchell district.
The book not only focuses on Springfield, the Douglas and Deshon families, but also explores the wider community, and the dramas and heartache involved in managing a property from the early times to the present.
After a picnic lunch in the beautiful garden, an awards ceremony was held to present the younger family members with certificates signifying the 27 generations of the Douglas-Deshon family.
