Elders Meandarra agent Glen Waldron said there was a mixed variation in cattle quality at the sale.
“Better export cattle – bullocks and cows – have lifted in price with bullock sales in the mid 180c/kg range and cows into the early 150c range,” he said.
“On the other hand lighter weight cattle, particularly the lesser quality and out of condition lines are meeting reduced competition.”
According to Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service, numbers almost doubled on the previous week’s sale.
Medium-weight C2 yearling steers to lot feeder buyers sold from 160c to 180c, averaging 171c to be 11c dearer. Their heavy weight equivalents made from 167 to 179c and averaged 176c to be firm week-on-week.
The medium and heavyweight C3 yearling heifers to slaughter were 2c to 9c dearer and sold from 139c to 160c, averaging 152c.
Lightweight C3 heifers to processors sold from 125c to 145c, averaging 130c, while C4 bullocks sold from 167c to 187c, averaging 178c.
