TWENTY-FIVE years since its inception, one of the founding members of the Toomba Invitational Horse Sale at Charters Towers has paid $32,000 to top the event.

Ernest Bassingthwaighte, Charters Towers, handed his new purchase to Scott Schoo, Clermont who has the enviable task of training and campaigning the highly fancied, athletic two year old mare, Hillgrove Black Label.

By Allinghams Black Jack, out of Hillgrove Daddys Girl, the mare was only sold when Mr Mann’s wife, Yasmin insisted if he continued to sell her horses, he needed to step up and offer one of his own.

The popular mare runs back to Stanton Stud Black Breeze on her sire’s side and will be keenly supervised by Mr Bassingthwaighte as she campaigns across Queensland.

In total 42 mares sold to average $7120 and achieve an 87pc clearance.

Geldings paid to a top of $15,000 when Berry and Kelly Shann’s, three year old, Nibbereena Mr Heartbreaker sold to Lawrence Hack, Rocklea, Alpha.

Averaging $4982, 32 geldings sold for an 89pc clearance.

Peter and Dal-Marie Glenwright, Laroona Station, Charters Towers paid $14,500 for Berry and Kelly Shann's Nibbereena Tango, a three year old mare.

Marilyn Toohey, Glen Dhu Station, Mt Garnett (standing) paid $14,500 for her new mare, Laroona Madonna from vendor, Jess Glenwright, Laroona Station, Charters Towers.

A single stallion, Rhondu Double Spark sold for $8000.

Led prospects were strongly supported and sold to a top of $7500 for a 19 month old Shining Sheriff filly, Rhondhu Flamin Shiney.
