The single biggest change I’ve made as a person since my move out west is my appreciation of different music styles.
In my PFY (pre-farmer years) I was a fan of techno. I owned a stack of CDs put out by a large variety of DJs and even now I still love that and my Top 40 pop music.
In my PFY I couldn’t stomach too much country music.
“My wife left me, my dog ran away, my car broke down, my hat doesn’t fit” – it was a message I just didn’t care for. I guess I just wasn’t looking hard enough for something that ‘fit’ me better.
The Farmer loves his country and rock music. American, Australian, you name it, he loves it. It was cause for a little tension on long car trips. As it turns out, this old dog can still be taught a few new tricks.
In the last year The Farmer took me to go and see Alan Jackson in concert.
I love live music, so I knew I would enjoy myself, but not being a huge fan of country music, I was a little apprehensive. It turned out to be one of the best concert experiences I have ever had.
I knew more songs than I thought I would and it was a great crowd too.
Last week The Farmer took me to AC/DC. Having never been to a rock’n’roll concert I was also a little nervous.
I popped on some black jeans and we found our way to the train station. There was more police presence for the public transport to and from the concert than for anything I had ever seen before. There was even more once we arrived at the venue.
It was a sea of black. After my initial nerves vanished, I had more fun than I could have ever hoped for! My ears are still ringing!
It’s all about persisting. There is some country and rock that I still can’t swallow. But as it turns out, there is also a lot that I can, and my listening repertoire is much broader as a result.

To her excitement, she woke up on Tuesday morning to discover that it had been shared with over 30 million fans on the official Akka Dakka Facebook page, and tweeted to millions more.
