A WIDESPREAD buying audience which spanned the full length of the eastern seaboard from north Queensland to southern Victoria pushed the Price family’s annual Moongool Charolais, on-property bull sale, Yuleba to record levels last Monday
Strong demand from north and Central Queensland commercial producers and interstate stud masters forced the total clearance of 99 Charolais bulls for a record $7768 average.
Moongool co-principal Ivan Price was keen to shout a drink after his successful sale and said his return clients’ commitment and resolve was commendable.
“One of the most pleasing aspect of this year’s sale was there were bulls which suited everyone’s needs and budgets and it was very solid from start to finish,” said Mr Price.
Moongool Jethro, a first-crop son of Silverstream Evolution E168 (P) and the first bull offered attracted the $22,000 equal top money from north Queensland bullock producers Loid, Zabby and Lachie Appleton, Appleton Pastoral Company, Bulliwallah, Charters Towers.
Jethro was the heaviest bull in the catalogue at 1108kgs and scanned 152 for his eye muscle area and exhibited great sire appeal and tremendous depth-of-body.
Victorian stud master Sapphire Halliday, Waterford Charolais stud, Mt Macedon bid the same amount to secure the services of polled youngster, Moongool J281.
He was another of the Silverstream Evolution sons which boasted excellent muscle expression, a very deep flank and tremendous breed character.
Several large scale commercial producers were active including Andrew and Cathy Fernie, Riverview Cattle Company, Riverview, Clermont who operated on the top end buying four bulls for a $10,375 average and paid up to $16,000 for another quality, thick butted Silverstream Evolution son.
Other Clermont district producers operating of the elite end were Owen and Lee Scott, Ruan Grazing, Ruan Station who bought a similar number for a $12,000 average paying up to $16,000 for another quality, polled son of Evolution in Moongool J425.
Alistair and Joanne McClymont, AJM Pastoral, Burleigh Station, Richmond also selected three bulls for a $9500 average and Gavin Scott, Rosetta Pastoral Company, Rosetta Station, Collinsville with four bulls for a $7125 average.
New South Wales based, Sandholes Farming, North Bunarba, Mungindi bought four bulls for a $6500 average.
Many return buyers, particularly from the Central Highlands and CQ have had success at commercial hoof and hook competitions with Moongool genetics.
