FEMALES ruled the roost at the Emerald Saleyards during the CQ Spring Classic Droughtmaster sale and although demand was soft, buyers paid impressive prices for registered Droughtmasters.

The top price female at the sale was a 33-month-old, Calioran cow, Lolita, with a bull calf by Glenlands Millennium at foot.
The duo, which was listed by the Purnell family, Rockhampton, sold to new stud operator, Riley McKenzie, Ramardoo Droughtmasters, Wild Horse, Bluff for $5500.
"I was looking for a top quality cow and the calf Lolita had at foot was exceptional.
"You couldn't go wrong buying a cow that can raise a calf like that," Riley said.
Mr McKenzie said although his 10 head stud was only small and relying on his parents support, he hoped to sell at the National Droughtmaster sale in the future.
Obi Obi buyer, Clayton Woods paid $4000 on behalf of his mother, Hazel, Hazelwood stud, for a 12-month-old, unjoined Hamadra heifer, Eda.
Mr Woods said the fact that she was sired by Yaralla Jorgo was a determining factor.
"Eda is a lovely soft heifer with a beautiful length and head and she's the first heifer sold by Jorgo," he said.
Mr Woods also selected the last Mt Oscar Halmark daughter to be offered, the polled, unjoined, 18-month-old, Hamadra Dora for $3500 from Andrew and Kerri McKenzie's sale team.
All up, Hazelwood stud purchased four unjoined heifers to average $2375.
A total of five cows and calves averaged $3000 while 19 unjoined heifers averaged $2000.
Local stud operators, Wayne and Jesse Barnes, Waylanbar Droughtmasters selected a 38-month-old Lazy A cow with a female Hamadra Bender calf at foot which was listed by Alex and Maree Power, Julia Creek for $3500.
Trent Edwards, Wolfang TJ stud, Clermont took home Locarno Jive, a polled, unjoined, 12-month-old, Medway Oombabeer daughter, out of Locarno Francesca for $3500.
The highest priced joined heifer was Calioran Dodie, a polled, 25-month-old, Calioran Broderic daughter which was purchased by Josh and Brodie Perry, Strathfield 9JE, Fletchers Awl, Clermont for $2500.
The young female was presented as a joined heifer after running with Glenlands Millennium.
A total of six joined heifers averaged $1916.
Damon Everingham, Gadwell, Alpha, paid $2250 for the 24-month-old, Sugerland Gemma which had been joined with Glenfosslyn Grange.
Mr Everingham purchased six females at the sale including two joined heifers and four unjoined females to average $1291.
A total of five females sold immediately after the sale to improve the clearance.
