MINISTER for Agriculture and Fisheries and Minister for Sport and Racing, Bill Byrne, today left on a tour of western Queensland to visit local producers and graziers.
“I’m looking forward to getting into the field with local growers and producers to hear directly from them,” Mr Byrne said.
“We committed to being a government that listens, consults and engages with the community.
"That’s exactly what this trip to western Queensland is all about.
“In the first two weeks on the job I’ve already visited the Capricorn Coast, Callide Valley and Biloela to visit farmers doing it tough after Tropical Cyclone Marcia.
"As the Member for Rockhampton I know first-hand the impact that this cyclone has had and the Government is working to get people back on their feet.”
Mr Byrne will visit Emerald, Longreach, Quilpie and Charleville with AgForce during the week.
The Minister will meet with producers, visit agricultural colleges and speak to local graziers.
“Primarily I expect to speak with producers and graziers about the effect of the drought and the conditions on the land.
"I’m keen to listen and I want to hear from producers in their own words about the priorities and opportunities they see in the sector.”
