TOM Stockwell, Sunday Creek Station, has taken over the reins as president of the Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association (NTCA).
Mr Stockwell takes over from David Warriner, who has just completed his three-year term.
Mr Stockwell has been a Territorian for some 37 years and says becoming the president of the NTCA is a great honour.
"I aim to protect and advance the issues that affect our members," Mr Stockwell said.
"I would also like to thank and recognise the role of David Warriner, as the previous president.
"He really provided strong leadership and a positive outlook, and did a great job.
"He put his heart and soul into the NTCA during his term."
Mr Stockwell is a former agricultural scientist who moved to the Northern Territory in 1978, to work with the Department of Primary Industry in Katherine.
He studied agricultural science at the University of Queensland, and has a masters degree in agriculture for research work he did on cattle stations in the Katherine region.
Mr Stockwell started trading cattle in 1987, and in 1994 he and wife Bev bought Sunday Creek Station in the Sturt Plateau District, south of Katherine, where they run about 7000 cattle on
850sq km.
Chris Nott, Alcoota Station, Alice Springs, will replace Mr Stockwell as the NTCA's delegate to the Cattle Council of Australia, while former NTCA chair Rohan Sullivan will become the association's delegate to the National Farmers Federation.
