WIDESPREAD rain across big area of Queensland had a major impact on prices at Ray White Livestock’s annual weaner sale in Tenterfield today.
The 3800 head yarding of top quality New England bred mainly Angus cattle attracted buyers from Wandoan, Goondiwindi, Meandarra, Roma and as far north as Blackall.
In general lightweight steers were making 370-380c with heavyweights in the 340-350c. One pen of lightweight EU steers even cracked 390c.
Goondiwindi based Landmark agent Scott Bell bought six decks of 250-300kg steers for between 340c and 360c to go onto grass and a furture oats crop.
“The rain is by far the biggest factor in the lift in values but the opportunity to buy good runs of quality cattle also helped,” Mr Bell said.
The Tenterfield sale marks the start of the northern region weaner sales. Harold Curry is offering 1800 head in Tenterfield on March 15.
