IT’S been a huge year for stud stock sales, with records smashed and studs recording strong sale averages as the cattle market created high demand for quality genetics.
Breaking the all breeds record for a bull was NCC Justified, a 24-month-old grey Brahman by Carinya Tony from NCC Jardena 2290.
It sold for $325,000 to Roger and Lorena Jefferis, Elrose Brahman Stud, Cloncurry, at the Nobbs Cattle Company (NCC) Brahmans on-property sale in October.
NCC owner Brett Nobbs set another record as a buyer in February, when he purchased 18-month-old Woonallee Los Angeles, sired by Glen Anthony Y-Arta AY02, for $160,000 at the Woonallee on-property sale at Furner, South Australia, setting a new Australian record for the Simmental breed.
A new female all breeds record was set when Rodger and Jenny Pryce, Brooklana Angus, Brooklana, NSW, paid $190,000 for 21-month-old pregnancy tested in calf heifer Millah Murrah Prue M4 at the Millah Murrah on-property sale.
The purchase smashed the previous all breeds record of $160,000 set by Poll Hereford heifer Baldrudgery Lisa in 1990.
Prue M4, a daughter of Coonamble Hector H249 and Millah Murrah Prue F141, was one of six lots making $40,000 or more at the Bathurst sale, which averaged $13,709 across 234 lots.
At the Elite Wagyu Sale in May, a Wagyu heifer in utero from Laird and Sonia Morgan, “Arubial”, Condamine, Qld, set a new Australian breed record price of $95,000, selling to Wag-You.com operating through Landmark Dubbo, for South Africian-based Hendrik Markam, Miku Wagyu.
A new bull record was set at the same sale, with Mayura Station, Millicent, SA, selling Mayura L0010, sired by Mayura Itoshigenami Jnr, to Hewitt Pastoral Enterprises, Charters Towers, Qld, for $105,000 via AuctionsPlus.
Moongool Charolais, Yuleba, Qld, continued the record breaking run in September when 24-month-old Moongool Lunar Rise, a polled son of Silverstream Evolution, sold for $83,000 to 4 Ways Charolais, Inverell, NSW.
New Speckle Park breed records were set for bulls and females, with Minnamurra Leander L81 making $35,000, selling to a syndicate of studs, at the Minnamurra on-property sale, while Six Star G61 Tammy M6 was knocked down for $31,000 at the Specktacular Sale at Royal Melbourne Show, going to Hidden Valley Speckle Parks, Dungay, NSW.
In the Brangus breed, a new female record of $60,000 was set by Telpara Hills Miss Van Damme 15M3, offered by Telpara Hills Brangus, Atherton, Qld, in the ABCA Elders Livestock Ladies of Legacy sale at Gracemere.
The 19-month-old went to Troy Mitchell, Coffs Harbour, NSW.
