Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 520 head of cattle at this week’s Prime and Store Cattle Sale, a slight decrease on last week’s yarding.
One major export processor attended, as well as local processors and one southern backgrounder.
Steers suitable for the local trade market increased 13c from 245c to 288c. Local trade heifers were in short supply but sold well to a top of 236.2c, increasing 17c.
Bullocks suitable for slaughter were again in short supply but gained 28c on last week’s 225c. Heavy cows gained 34c on last week’s quotes to realise 225.2c.
Bulls suitable for slaughter improved 20c to achieve 232.2c. Young store bulls maintained value, with quality types in short supply.
Local trade cows improved in price, a reflection of the better quality offered.
Store steers lost ground on last week, as did store heifers again a reflection of the numbers and quality presented. Cows and calves made $950.
