Breed average values hit new record highs amid strong, consistent and sustained demand at last week’s annual Glenlands Droughtmaster Sale, Bouldercombe.
Culminating in a near $1.5 million gross and another complete clearance, the fixture recorded a breed record, for average values ($10,030) for vendors, the Childs family, Glenlands Stud, Bouldercombe. The result was another clear vindication of the genetic and preparation policies adopted by Glenlands and the testing parameters that accompanied the physical product on offer.
Statistically, 149 bulls peaked at $65,000 to average $10,030 a $127 increase over the 2016 result. Sale openers, 12 led bulls averaged $24,042, topping at $65,000 with the 142 registered bulls averaging $10,127. Seven purebreds sold to $13,000 to average $8072.
Demand for the male product at auction continues to attract both seedstock and the commercial sector with producers like Jim Gorman’s, Seamark Pty Ltd., Cliffdale, Theodore and Vermont Park, Nebo returning to take 38 bulls (25 per cent of the catalogue) to average $6368.
Glenlands Vintage (P) (19-months) (858kg) (138EMA) (Fairhaven Hercules) took the sale honours at $65,000 selling to Hastings and Sandra Donaldson and family, Medway Stud, Bogantungan. Losing bidders on Vintage were Angus and Donna Deane, Malboona, Corfield. Operating via phone, the Deanes secured a pair of led bulls to average $35,000. Top of their selections was the $50,000 Volume (P) (19-months) (874kg) (130EMA) (Comanche Cheif) along with the $20,000 Vin (P) (22-months) (948kg) (144EMA) (Medway Tennessee).
Allan Matson, Ebony Hills Stud, Nobby took two unled to average $43,250. These included the second top seller, the $57,500 Vanstone (P) (24-months) (780kg) (130EMA). His other purchase was the 22-month, $29,000 Vaas (P) (Glenlands Prototype) (896kg) (135EMA). At $32,500 the 28-month, 944kg, 138EMA Unlimited (P) sold to Gray and Liz O’Neill, Nyanda, Rolleston while Fred Noffke, Keronga, Rolleston signed off on five to average $13,600 topping at $28,000 for the 21-month, 708kg, Varley (P) (128EMA) (Glenlands Next In Line). John and Marni Baker, Booroondarra, Middlemount selected a pair to average $16,500 topping at $20,000 for the 20-month, Vickers (P) (Glenlands D Ramsay) (766kg).
Michael and Angela Corones, Maclands Droughtmasters, Bororen, picked out the $21,000 Vans (P) (21-months) (900kg) (135EMA). Andrew Schwartz, Juanita Pastoral Company, Springsure outlaid $16,000 for a 20-month-old Glenlands D Slater son. Luke and Alyce Tincknell, Cambridge Downs, Springsure parted with $19,000 for Vanuatu (P) (23-months) (Cheif) while the Winten family, Kalbar, Alpha selected the $15,000 Verdi (P) (22-months).
Richie and Gaye Luck, Junee, Dingo took a trio to average $12,667 topping at $14,000 twice. Steve Smoothy, Lynwood, Theodore took a pair for an $11,500 medium. Andrew and Kathy Hawkins, Mowbray, Springsure entered the market taking two for an average $10,250 topping at $13,000. Brett Nobbs, Inverrio, Duaringa secured the $14,000, Valor (P) (Medway Tennessee) while the John Beitz, Middle Ridge, Amby claimed a $13,000 entry by D Ramsay. Robert Kirk, Gayndah picked out a Glenlands Quartermaster son and went to secure the $12,000 Verney (P).
Will and Ingrid Haviland, Sugarland Stud, Eungella picked out the 18-month-old, 710kg, Vince (P) for $13.000 while John and Ellen Cotter, Kinbombi Station, Goomeri returned for a pair for a $11,000 medium topping at $14,000 for the 23-month-old, 902kg, 130EMA, Vegas (P) by Comanche Cheif (P).
Colin and Linda Hewitt, Hewitt Australia, Emerald picked up two for on average $10,500 while Ross Kiernan, Bygana, Clermont put together a draft of 11 for a $9864 average. Top of his selections was the $19,000 Vandyke (D) (20-months) (936kg) (133EMA). Paul and Wendy Pownall, Tecoma, Monto signed off on seven for on average $8572 and topping at $12,000. Sale regulars Bash and Robin Carmichael, Newcombe, Augathella claimed five to average them $8400 and topping at $11,000. Brian Milner, The Pinnacle, Springsure bought four to average $8250.
Long standing patrons Charlie and Jackie Hawkins, Malakoff Downs, Hughenden signed off on eight to average $6938. Another regular, the Sullivan family, Talagai, Capella returned to take three to average $7833 to top at $8500. Colin Lawrie, Sebastopol, Westwood took three at on average $5000.
