Stanthorpe district sheep breeders Mark and Angela Davey, North Springdale and Murray and Helen Schroder from Keilah, Inglewood, sold 55 Australian White rams to average $1218, at the Stanthorpe showgrounds last Friday.
The sale was the first time the Australian White breed have been auctioned in Queensland, although they have been previously sold privately.
They were developed by Graham Gilmore, Tayykeel Stud, Oberon, NSW, who officially opened the Stanthorpe sale.
Australian Whites are a composite breed and have been with bred using four breeds including White Dorper, Van Rooy, Polled Dorset and Texel.
The sale topped at $3000 for a July 2016 drop ram who weighed 106kg, bought by Paul Keever, McLean Farms, Copps Hill, Pittsworth.
Mr Kever was impressed with his top priced ram for his overall confirmation, structure and weight-for-age.
In all, McLean Farms finished with 11 rams to average $1490.
They will be joined over Dorper ewes, with the progeny sold between 45 and 48kg at the Warwick Prime Lamb sales.
Western Queensland producers the Saunders family, Kelly’s Creek, Longreach bought a draft of 10 rams to average $1750.
Rick Goodrich, Terrica Pastoral Co, Terrica Station, Inglewood selected seven rams for an average of $757.
Other buyers included Ron Morris, Texas who finished with three rams to average $850, along with Ray Mascadri, The Summit, finished with three rams to average $867.
Both vendors were happy with the results of the sale.
