Central Brangus Classic hits 10 year mark

Starting from 10am, the sale draft comprises of 116 high quality Black Brangus registered and herd bulls being offered by 16 vendors from the Central Queensland (CQ) region.

Sale coordinator Duncan Geddes, Telemon Brangus, Springsure, said the primary focus for the vendors is to produce bulls for the sale that meet the requirements of commercial operators.

“The sale draft is full of commercially focussed bulls, bred in CQ which offer top notch overall carcass performance,” Duncan said.

“A good selection of stud sires are being offered, which based on the sales’ history have provided great value for money,” he said.

In relation to the sale reaching its 10^th birthday, Duncan said it was originally created due to a need to create growth and more exposure for the Brangus breed in the region.

“We wanted to create an opportunity for commercial Brangus breeders and people who hadn’t tried Brangus before to have access to a wide-range of quality genetics in the one place.”

He said the sale has gotten stronger each year which was underlined by the excellent sale results achieved in 2016.

“The most pleasing aspect for me has been watching producers purchase their first Brangus bulls at the sale, and seeing them return to the selling ring each year eager to purchase more.”

Each year the bulls arrive for the sale with current weights, eye muscle area and fat content scans, are pre-treated for ticks and have a fertility guarantee in place from each vendor.

Prospective buyers are encouraged to attend the annual bull walk the day prior to the sale from 4pm, so they can inspect the lots yarded for the sale while socialising and enjoying refreshments.
