FROM just three months old Warwick teenager David Bartley knew he was looking at a champion in Limousin steer Voodoo Child and today he was proven right.
The 594 kilogram steer, now 12 months old, was named grand champion led steer at the Ekka today by judges Craig Price, Kilcoy Pastoral Company, Ben Davies, Thomas Foods, and Brad Stenzel, Marcelford Meats.
David and his father Scott Bartley purchased the steer from Samantha Fletcher, Bluffview Limousin stud, Tenterfield when he was just a calf after she accepted a job managing a property in Canada and couldn’t show him herself.
Voodoo Child, who even had his own personalised ear tags, was named the heavyweight led steer champion before beating the West Moreton Anglican College junior and lightweight steer champions and the mediumweight led steer champion from Anthony O’Dwyer, Dalby for the grand champion title.
The steers will be auctioned at 1.30pm today.
