Green, white and blue frocks and shirts dotted the lawns of the Longreach School of Distance Education on Saturday as around 100 people gathered to celebrate the school’s 30th anniversary.
As well as giving back to the staff, families and many community supporters who have done so much for the school since it began in 1987, the occasion was used to raise money for the Heart of Australia bus and its life-saving cardiac work in remote areas.
“We’re received lots of support and gifts in our years of drought so this is about giving back,” MC and P&C member, Joy McClymont said. “It’s a great milestone – the school has produced many great students over the years.”
Raffles were held and holidays auctioned during the relaxing picnic lunch afternoon that had a garden wedding-style feel.
Generous sponsorship slashed the price of tickets and attendees were able to dance the day away to the sounds of Special Guest.
Table price is now $300 or $35 for individual tickets.
